Teen pregnancy has been garnering a lot of media attention latley. 33,000 teenage girls get pregnant every year in Canada, 18,000 get abortions and 15,000 have their babies. Approximately 3/4 of teen moms are on or have been on some kind of social assistance, and according to health canada teen moms are twice as likley to be homeless by age 30 and are 10 times more likley to be living in poverty than adult women who give birth.
We could share many more sobering statistics, but what we want you to know is that Young Moms provides hope. We are making a significant difference one mom at a time here in our own city.
What makes Young Moms unique from other "teen parent programs" is that we are fundamentally relational, something we believe to be critical in shaping and sometimes saving, the life of a young person. Mentoring is at the heart of what we do. Our wholistic approach works to ensure that the mom creates a stable foundation not only for herself, but for her children as well.
There are numerous ways that we provide practical, emotional, spiritual & community support. Please contact our Young Moms staff for more information.
